Export and import specified items (2024)

The Test Data Management web application allows you to export or import content from or into a type in your test data repositories. You can import and export CSV, Excel, or JSON data. When you import data, Test Data Management keeps the elements in their original order.

The supported Excel file format is compatible with Microsoft® Office 365 and Excel 2007 or later.

In case security is enabled and the selected repository is authorized, the functionality described on this page may be restricted depending on the user groups you belong to. Contact your Administrator for access rights (read/write content and change configuration).

If you use the search field, you can export only the results of the search.

To export items from a type into a file, follow the steps below:

  1. Open Test Data Management.

  2. Select the repository.

  3. Select the type whose content you want to export.

  4. Click Export in the top right corner. The Export Type dialog opens.

  1. In the Export Type dialog, specify the Output type. You can use CSV, Excel, or JSON data. The default is CSV.

  1. If you select CSV, specify the following values:

    • Encoding: select the encoding type ASCII, UTF-8, or Windows-1252. The default is UTF-8.

    • Line break: select the line break character \r\n, \r, or n\. The default is \r\n.

    • Separator: specify the character you want to use as a field separator. The default is ;.

  2. Click Export to export your items.

  3. In the subsequent dialog, you can rename and save the file. By default, it has the same name as the type from which you export.

Import your items

To import items from a file to a type, follow the steps below:

  1. Open Test Data Management.

  2. Select the repository.

  3. Select the type into which you want to import content.

  4. Click Importin the top-right corner. The Import Type dialog opens.

  5. In the Import Type dialog, specify the Source you want to import: File, Clipboard, or Samples.

    Specify the file you want to import. Use the Browse button to select a file on your machine. You can use CSV, Excel, or JSON data. You can import files of up to 50 MB in size.

    If you select CSV, specify the following values:

    • Encoding: select the encoding type ASCII, UTF-8, or Windows-1252. The default is UTF-8.

    • Field separator: specify the character you want to use as a field separator. The default is ;.

    Optionally, select Keep order when importing (slower) to keep the items in the order they are present in the source.

    You can paste data directly from your clipboard. You can use CSV or JSON data.

    Import Type - Samples

    Import prepared data files from the installation folder located at C:\Program Files (x86)\TRICENTIS\Tosca Server\TestDataService\SampleDataSource. This folder contains the sample files you can import into Test Data Service. Here, you can categorize the sample files by creating the sub-folders that are mapped to the Category drop-down menu. You can also manually set the TDS configuration changes via the appsettings.json file.

    Specify the data you need:

    • Category: select the sample data category from the drop-down menu.

    • File: select the sample file you want to import from the drop-down menu.

    Optionally, select Keep order when importing (slower) to keep the items in the order they are present in the source.

  6. Click Import to import your items.
