A single, beautiful sunflower. Brilliant as the sun, wondrous as creation.
Bazaar description
The Tournesol is a greatsword in Final Fantasy XII. It is the ultimate greatsword in all versions of the game. It is a golden sword with runes carved on the blade, and a sun on one side of the hilt, and moon on the other.
The Tournesol license costs 225 LP. In the original release, it has an Attack Power of 140, topped only by the Zodiac Spear, while in the Zodiac releases it has an Attack Power of 138, which still makes it the strongest greatsword and one of the strongest weapons. While lacking a few points in attack power, the Tournesol exceeds the Zodiac Spear in terms of multi-hit and Evasion rate, but spears are faster weapons in terms of attack speed than greatswords. Tournesol's combo rate was reduced from 12% in the original version to 10% in the Zodiac versions.
Two fake Tournesols, alluding to the Excalibur and the Excalipoor,[1] are used by Gilgamesh. These swords have a shorter handle and are meant to be wielded with one hand, and have a sun with a face (Excalibur) and a moon (Excalipoor) on the hilt. This refers to the Excalibur and Excalipoor in Final Fantasy V, the game where Gilgamesh first appeared, although the more detailed appearance of the weapons with the sun and the moon on the hilts could only be seen in artwork shown in strategy guides.
In the Zodiac versions, the Knight can equip the weapon.

Obtained[]
The Tournesol requires several rare pieces of loot to be synthesized. It can also be stolen from Gabranth in the Zodiac versions' Trial Mode in Stage 100, but items obtained in the final stage cannot be brought to the main game.
The player should be careful at the bazaar and not sell the items as soon after obtaining them, but keeping them and then selling the items together after having the right amount.

Bazaar glitch[]
When items are sold at the bazaar, the game remembers how many items have been sold at any point. While the items can be sold whenever, when any item comes available at the bazaar using a certain ingredient, the number of said items in stock drops to zero. Therefore, if there are two items that both require, say, two Bone Fragments to make, and the player has sold six Bone Fragments to the bazaar when one of the items becomes available, the number of Bone Fragments in the bazaar's "memory" drops to zero, meaning the player will need to farm more Bone Fragments for the second item requiring that ingredient.
This glitch also works the other way around, to the player's advantage, because if both items come available at the same time the player only needs the two Bone Fragments that can be used for both items, so instead of needing four (two for each item), one would only need two (two is used for both items simultaneously).
This glitch can be exploited to obtain Tournesol with fewer High Arcanas than normally required. Since both Empyreal Soul and Serpentarius require a High Arcana, if the player sells the required items for these two at the same time, and sells only one High Arcana, both Empyreal Soul and Serpentarius appear on the bazaar anyway.
For example:
- The player enters Bazaar and sells Wargod's Band x2, Soul Powder x1, Snake Skin x4, Serpent Eye x2, and High Arcana x1 all at once, makes both Empyreal Soul and Serpentarius.
- The glitch can also be exploited to obtain both the Tournesol and Masamune/Kumbha (labeled Master-Crafted Blade in the Bazaar) at the same time, since both require Gemsteel.
