Abaqus Student Edition | Information Technology and Computing Support (2024)

Abaqus is a software suite for finite element analysis and computer-aided engineering. Abaqus Student Edition (SE) is a limited, free of charge version of Abaqusavailable for downloadon personal devices. The main limitationis that Abaqus SE only supports structural models up to 1,000 nodes.

Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 (64-bit only) computers.

Who Can Use This Software

All Oregon State University students can use Abaqus SE.

Access to Software

To download and install Abaqus, follow the steps below:

1. Go to the Abaqus Student Edition page and click "Free Download".
2. Create an account, or sign in if you already have one.
3. Accept the Condition of Usage Agreement and click "Download-now". You will then be prompted to visit the Download Center.
4. In the Download Center, click the "Download & Instructions" dropdown menu and download the version of Abaqus that you need.
5. Extract the downloaded .zip file and enter the folder. If you are installing Abaqus SE 2019, consult the "Installation Tips" section below before proceeding.
6. Run setup.exe and proceed through the installation. You can use the default settings for your Abaqus directory, or specify a different folder.
7. Once the installation is complete, you can launch the program and use Abaqus.

Installation Tips

Abaqus SE 2019 requires the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable package (x64). Download and install it from here.

If you encounter the following installation error dialog: "Unable to add Abaqus command directory" when installing Abaqus SE on Windows 10 (build 1793), please consultthis fix guide.
