The drawing number is used primarily for sheet to sheet linking, typically in, but not limited to, section details, section cuts, and detail callouts. Drawing Numbers are placed in CAD files, they consist of the discipline/sheet type designator followed by a hyphen and a number.

A drawing number represents a drawing. The drawing may have one part or several parts on it, or only a portion of a part. So, there may be several drawings to one part, or several parts to one drawing.

The drawing revision and drawing number make up a unique reference to a drawing - when making a change you need to know both the drawing number and the revision you are editing (generally the most recent revision). There are many kinds of revision numbering schemes.

Engineering drawings are used to communicate design ideas and technical information to engineers and other professionals throughout the design process. An engineering drawing represents a complex three-dimensional object on a two-dimensional piece of paper or computer screen by a process called projection.

The Part or Identifying Number (PIN) is an identification assigned ... for the purpose of uniquely identifying a specific item. A PIN is the same as, or is based on, the controlling drawing number.

Drawing number is generally a unique filing identifier. It is the number assigned to the drawing generated for a particular component. It may be unique in relation to the part number. As a rule, each organization has its numbering framework for specialized drawings.

Modern computer software is often tracked using two different software versioning schemes: an internal version number that may be incremented many times in a single day, such as a revision control number, and a release version that typically changes far less often, such as semantic versioning or a project code name.

The revision number changes with every revision in the document. The Issue number may change at stages / frequency determined by the organization.

A normal version number MUST take the form X.Y.Z where X, Y, and Z are non-negative integers, and MUST NOT contain leading zeroes. X is the major version, Y is the minor version, and Z is the patch version. Each element MUST increase numerically. For instance: 1.9.0 -> 1.10.0 -> 1.11.0.

The drawing number consists of letters, numbers or combination of letters and numbers, which may or may not be separated by dashes. The drawing number shall be assigned from numbers controlled by the design activity whose CAGE Code is assigned to the drawing.

The ratio is marked at the left end of the scale. For example, the scale of 1:50 means that 1 mm on the drawing represents 50 mm on the object. This means that the object is 50 times larger than the drawing of it. An object 450 mm long would be represented by a line 9 mm long (450 mm/50).
