Import offline GPS data into Waze Editor - Quote

Postby KirilHappy
Hello,
Is there way to upload GPS track taken while offline into the Waze editor, so I can create the new road?
I am not very experienced in this editing stuff yet I do visit some places that are not mapped yet i.e. the road is not in Waze yet. So I want to contribute the data for these new roads. Problem is that these places in mountains usually have little or no mobile network coverage and hence Waze has no connection and does not upload all of my GPS coordinates i.e. there are gaps in the data when there was no network connection. As well satellite imagery from woody areas does not really show the roads.
I have a recent example from Sunday, Nov 13th 15:31 GMT but am not sure how to hyperlink my GPS data to the forum.
I did try searching both with Google web search and the forum built-in search for similar posting to no avail. I found some past discussions on the topic related to water areas. The conclusion being that water areas should be sparingly entered into Waze as to not clutter the map. I hope this does not apply to paved roads.

You can definitely import GPS track data into Waze, but you'll need to use a third-party app and a script to do so.
I'm iOS based and use an app called GPS Tracks. It's a FREE app and I've set mine up to save my GPS track data remotely to Dropbox for safe keeping, but there's a variety of options for how to get your GPS data from the phone onto your computer or to relay it to another editor who might need the data.
I'm also using a Garmin GLO to enhance the accuracy of whatever route I'm trying to track (from new roads, new ramps, parking lots, residential developments, you name it). This IS NOT required though. Your phone's assisted GPS will still generate track data.
Once I'm done collecting GPS data I open things up with WME Geometries. It will display the path you traveled. If will shows waypoints if you've set any along the way as well. You can keep adding tracks into WME via that script so in case you make multiple runs you can display them all at once and use variations to average out whatever you're drawing new or modifying.

There are some ways to import data into the map, but I don't know if that will work with the data you have. If you have an external file containing some kind of GPS data (meaning, not measured with the Waze app), you could try to use the 'Import Geometry File' function in the editor.
Go to the 'Areas' tab and at the bottom you'll see a section where you can upload a file containing map data. After a succesfull import, your data is visualized on the map.
I don't know if the data you might have is compatible with the allowed import types but you could give it a try.
If you only used the Waze app and you didn't have coverage in the area where you want to add your tracks, it's not possible as vince1612 explained.
EDIT: Sorry, it seems you need a script to be able to do this. There is a Chrome extension 'WME Geometries' that adds this functionality

Waze does not provide any way to do that except through their in-app paving new roads option:
