Popular automaker Hyundai has been the subject of several significant recalls over the past few years that have affected some of their cars and crossovers SUVs. The problems appeared on Sonata, Genesis, Santa Fe and Tucson models.

In June 2017, 437,400 model year 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport SUVs were recalled when it was discovered the secondary hood latch may bind and not latch, unexpectedly opening and increasing the risk of a crash. As of April 2018 there was a 71-percent completion rate.

In June 2017, Hyundai recalled 161,074 model year 2015-2016 Hyundai Sonata and Genesis sedans for a faulty parking brake Indicator light that may not illuminate, causing the driver to move with the parking brake partially engaged. As of April 2018 the cars had a 58-percent completion rate.

Hyundai also recalled 67,744 model year 2015-2016 Hyundai Sonata sedans for faulty Antilock Braking System (ABS) warning lamps that may not Illuminate. According to NHTSA, the driver may be alert there is a brake system malfunction, but not realize the car’s brakes may lock up under heavy braking. As of April 2017, there was a 86.5-percent completion rate.

In August 2016, 41,000 model year 2016 Hyundai Tucson crossovers with the 7-speed dual clutch Transmission were recalled for its inability to accelerate from a stop. As of April 2018 there is 85.6-percent completion rate.

More than 62,800 model year 2015-2016 Hyundai Sonata and Hyundai Sonata Hybrid sedans were recalled for faulty panoramic sunroof panels that through a bonding issue with the wind deflector, may detach while driving. As of April 2018, the completion rate stood at 86.5-percent.
