This grisly device is used for removing intact faces from suitable corpses. For what, you may well ask? Those who practice such arcane arts use them for crafting shapeshifting masks.
You get the tool from a main character (that needs to die) in Act One. He's in the Fort Joy prison. It's a tool that allows you to pull faces off of a race. You receive the recipe for the masks from Fane.
After escaping Fort Joy, follow the northern beaches. You'll discover a woman, the same one who set your boat on fire early on. Kill her to get Fane's mask back.
At the first spawning point on the beach of Fort Joy, the player will want to continue forward until they meet a broken stone bridge and then pass it. Continue along the side until there are long, glowing vines. The player can walk through these to reveal an open space where Fane is kneeling and robed over a body.
You have to craft the mask, it's the face, a source orb and something else I believe. Combine the ripped face and a source orb. Thats all there is to it. You'll start finding Source Orbs in chapter two.
Regular healing spells hurt Fane for he is an undead. Poison heals him. You can pick up and carry a Barrel of Ooze with you. It can be used an unlimited number of times in Crafting when combined with an Empty Potion Bottle to create a Poison Potion, giving you an excellent constant source of healing.
If persuasion is successfull, Birdie will leave as a free dog. Alternatively, the player may agree to put Birdie down at the dog's request. Successfully persuading Birdie from turning (or killing him at his request) grants 1400 XP.
But what can start as an illicit affair can result in the player realizing Fane is altogether endearing. His romance is a relationship that deals with stepping into someone else's shoes and looking at what a partner needs, rather than just thinking about what the player wants.
If you have teleport you can use it to pull a Meat Golem out of a locked cage and teleport Kniles into the cage, this will cause Kniles to drop out of combat entirely. If you don't want to fight, give him Atusa's severed leg (if in your possession). He will trade you the face ripper item if you have Fane in your party.
Outside of combat, the attacker needs to position themself behind the target then select the option to attack; instead of a sword being displayed, a hand holding a downward pointing dagger will be shown. Backstab attacks have a 100% critical hit chance.
Once in the basem*nt, she will ask you to perform a ritual. The ingredients are found in the cupboard behind her. Once you have them, use the Obsidian Knife on your main character.Then select combine and mix the bloodied knife with the bowl and blackroot.
