Why am I getting so many deathclaw attacks in Fallout Shelter? ›

Deathclaws are more likely to attack the vault if the vault doors are opened, immediately after sending dwellers to the wasteland or on quests, and if there is a radio station broadcasting out to the wasteland.

You can minimize the damage that the deathclaws cause by arming all of the dwellers in the topmost levels with the best weapons and outfits you have. Posting guards in the vault entrance is also helpful. Your goal is to have each room wear the deathclaws down as they go deeper into the vault.

Deathclaws are attracted by your radio station and the number of times you open the vault door. If you stop calling for dwellers in the radio room and send your dweller for longer quest/ wastleland runs, you can decrease the appearence of Deathclwas significantly.

Deathclaws are the strongest enemies in the game and can be encountered when they randomly attack the vault, similar to raiders, however, they are much stronger and rarer than raiders. They can also be found while exploring the wasteland. They can also be encountered during quests.

I recommend getting a really high powered rifle or Gauss rifle, leaving your companions behind (since if you miss and get the "caution" warning they give away your position completely), and sneak attack critting them in the head from across the map.

You can find a Deathclaw spawn quest marked on your map, just west of Top of the World. Head over and make your way down the cliffside where you will encounter the Deathclaw. To "make friends" you need to get within melee range then hit the command when it appears.

Pretty much any rapid fire gun loaded with AP ammo works pretty well actually come to think of it. Other alternatives for killing death claws include standing on tall things, recruiting Craig Boone as a companion and excessive use of land mines.

Stick to more economic explosives such as grenade machine guns, and if you have them mines can cripple a deathclaw's legs instantly and end a fight before it begins, which is almost a necessity because once a deathclaw is close (it doesn't take long for them to close a gap) it is inadvisable to use explosives at all.

Deathclaws are particularly vulnerable on their stomach, but rarely expose this area long enough for a player to shoot it. Luckily, V.A.T.S. make critical hits on Deathclaws a reality. Aim for the torso and head to deal the most damage, or even queue up a few shots on the Deathclaw's limbs to cripple the creature.

How do you get rid of deathclaws? ›

Get some good weapons.

Good choices for ranged weapons would be the Alien Blaster, the Gobi Campaign sniper rifle, Gauss rifles, and heavy incinerators. If you decide to use a Ranged weapon, make sure to stock up on ammo before heading to the fight.

High level character is recommended before facing any deathclaws in any game and always keep your distance and try and find somewhere the deathclaw can't get to you, ideally you're looking for headshots for quick kills or failing that leg shots to cripple them and slow them down.

Extreme range, sneak attack criticals, and armor-piercing bullets are your friends versus Deathclaws. If you're in possession of (and a decent shot with) a scoped hunting rifle or better sniper-type rifle, you can usually pick them off one at a time since they tend not to group up.
