A guide to pallet wide shipping containers | OZBOX (2024)

Pallet Wide Containers are a special type of shipping container that are manufactured to maximise the number of standard sized pallets that can be stored and transported.

They are slighter wider than a standard container as a result but can accommodate 10 pallets (20ft pallet wide container) or 21 pallets (40ft pallet wide container). There are many industries that transport goods directly by pallet in Victoria which makes these containers the perfect choice.

What makes pallet wide containers different?

The size of the pallet wide shipping containers is the main difference to the regular shipping containers we have for sale or hire at OZBOX. Whilst the difference in size might only be two inches compared to a standard international shipping container, it makes all the difference when it comes to storing and transporting goods on pallets.

At OZBOX, our pallet wide shipping containers are also high cube, meaning they have an extra foot of height compared to standard containers. This makes them ideal for the stacking of pallets in your container, enabling you to pack your shipping container efficiently and reduce the damage to goods being stored and transported. It also helps with ventilation in the container.

How many standard pallets can fit in a pallet wide container?

The standard pallet size in Australia and New Zealand is 1165mm by 1165mm. This means that a 20ft pallet wide shipping container can hold 10 pallets and a 40ft pallet wide container can hold up to 21 pallets.

This number is based on your pallets being single stacked. Depending on high you build each of your pallets, you should be able to double stack them to maximise the space, potentially allowing for up to 20 pallets to be stacked in a 20ft pallet wide container and 42 in a 40ft pallet wide container. You can find more information on stacking pallet wide shipping containers below.

How many boxes can fit on an Australian or New Zealand pallet?

Given the dimensions of the standard pallet size above, our 20ft pallet wide container will fit approximately 700-1000 handable cartons (boxes). Box dimensions and stuffing plans may change the total number of boxes loaded but this is a helpful guide.

Our 40ft high cube pallet wide container will hold between 1200-1400 handable cartons (boxes).

Can you stack pallets in a container?

As we have already touched upon, if you truly want to maximise the space you have in your pallet wide shipping container, it is best to double stack your pallets. This, of course, will depend on how high your build each of your pallets. If it recommended that you build your pallets to around 1.10m-1.15m high which should allow you enough space to double stack.

If you are using one of our OZBOX pallet wide shipping containers, either the 20ft or 40ft model, they both come in the high cube design which will allow you to stack each pallet up to 1.20m high. This will really allow you to maximise the use of space in the shipping container, whether that’s for shipping or storage.
